About the position

The Certified Technician provides support to the pharmacist by reviewing, compounding, and dispensing medications. All work is carried out under the supervision of a licensed Pharmacist. This position qualifies for our Pharmacy Technician Incentive Program, which includes $1500 in commitment incentives spread over a two-year period. Payment is made after six months, one year, and two years of employment. As a Certified Technician, you will be responsible for compounding and/or preparing medications, including sterile products, oral, topical, and controlled substances, as authorized by a physician and under the supervision of a licensed Pharmacist. You will also deliver and exchange medications to the respective patient area and return unused medications to the pharmacy. Documenting pharmaceutical activities, including patient billing for medications and equipment, is essential, ensuring accuracy of data using both automated and paper systems. In addition, you will respond to and triage requests from customers for assistance with pharmacy services such as medication delivery and drug information. Operating and supporting automated dispensing technology to supply correct medications for individual patients according to pharmacist and physician orders is a key responsibility. You will also be involved in ordering, receiving, restocking, and rotating inventory, as well as completing expiration date management. Assisting with the training of new employees and contributing to process improvement projects are also part of your role. Finally, you will complete regulatory compliance inspections of medication storage areas, including inspections and/or controlled substance inventories, and maintain necessary regulatory documentation as required.

Responsibilities

  • Compounds and/or prepares medications (sterile products, oral, topical, controlled substances, etc.) including high-risk medication processes as defined by the entity, as authorized by a physician, under the supervision of a licensed Pharmacist.
  • Delivers exchanges medications to the respective patient area and returns unused medications to the pharmacy.
  • Documents pharmaceutical activities including patient billing for medications and equipment, quality control requirements, etc. using automated and paper systems. Ensures accuracy of data.
  • Responds to and triages requests from customers for assistance with pharmacy services such as medication delivery, drug information, etc.
  • Operates and supports automated dispensing technology to supply correct medications for individual patients, according to pharmacist and physician orders.
  • Orders, receives, restocks, and rotates inventory, and completes expiration date management.
  • Assists with training of new employees, educating them in job-specific functions.
  • Contributes to process improvement projects.
  • Completes regulatory compliance inspection of medication storage areas, including inspections and/or controlled substance inventories, USP797 and other regulatory documentation as required.

Requirements

  • Registration with the NC Board of Pharmacy unless enrolled in a PharmD program.
  • CPhT from PTCB or ExCPT from NHA unless enrolled in a PharmD program.
  • Completion of an academic pharmacy technician training program preferred.
  • Prior pharmacy technician experience is preferred.
  • Previous sterile IV compounding experience preferred.
