The Inpatient Rehabilitation Psychologist at the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago will play a crucial role in assessing and treating patients who are dealing with physical disabilities resulting from traumatic injuries or illnesses. This position is integral to the treatment team on the designated inpatient floor, where the psychologist will work collaboratively to help patients manage their emotional responses to their disabilities. The psychologist will also receive an academic appointment at Northwestern Medicine's Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Department, which is contingent upon their academic, research, and clinical experience. The psychologist will conduct interviews with patients, families, and relevant personnel to gather comprehensive information regarding the patient's personal, medical, psychiatric, substance use, and social history. They will perform psychological and neuropsychological evaluations and provide consultation and therapeutic interventions for individuals, families, and groups. Evidence-based interventions will be employed, including Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Trauma-Focused CBT (TF-CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Dialectic Behavioral Therapy (DBT), and mindfulness-based interventions. The psychologist will also lead or co-facilitate psychoeducational groups and consult with treatment teams on psychological factors affecting rehabilitation programs and patient-therapist relationships. Additionally, the psychologist will provide capacity evaluations, behavioral management plans, and suicide assessments as needed. They will co-treat with other allied health disciplines when emotional or behavioral factors hinder rehabilitation progress and will be responsible for discharge planning and follow-up services, including referrals for patients and families. Maintaining patient documentation in accordance with organizational requirements is also a key responsibility. The psychologist will participate in the Psychology Training Program, supervising doctoral-level advanced practicum students and post-doctoral fellows, and will engage in teaching and research activities as requested.
