About the position

The Inside Plant Technician at Polk Telecom Solutions is responsible for managing, maintaining, and troubleshooting the company's internal network infrastructure, focusing on fiber optics, copper cables, and associated hardware. This role requires hands-on experience in an inside plant environment to ensure seamless communication and connectivity within the organization's network operations.

Responsibilities

  • Install, maintain, and troubleshoot telecommunications equipment and systems within the inside plant environment.
  • Perform fiber optic and copper cable terminations, splicing, testing, and routing.
  • Work with switches, routers, patch panels, and other inside plant equipment.
  • Manage and monitor the condition and performance of internal plant systems, ensuring minimal downtime.
  • Ensure compliance with safety standards and industry regulations during installation and maintenance procedures.
  • Coordinate with outside plant teams to ensure proper integration of inside and outside plant systems.
  • Maintain detailed records of all work performed, including diagrams, work orders, and system changes.
  • Assist with the design and layout of new inside plant installations as required.
  • Provide technical support and troubleshooting for in-house teams as needed.
  • Work closely with engineering teams to ensure all systems are optimized for performance and reliability.

Requirements

  • Minimum 2-5 years of experience in an inside plant environment or related field.
  • Experience with fiber optic systems, copper cabling, patching, terminations, splicing, and testing tools (OTDR, fiber testers, power meters, etc.).
  • Preferred certifications such as BICSI Installer, Fiber Optic Technician (CFOT), or similar.
  • Strong understanding of telecommunication network systems, inside plant infrastructure, and network monitoring systems.
  • Strong diagnostic and troubleshooting skills for complex technical issues.
  • Ability to lift and carry heavy equipment, work in confined spaces, and work at heights as needed.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with network architecture and design.
  • Knowledge of industry standards, including ANSI, TIA/EIA, and BICSI.
  • Previous experience with installation, maintenance, and upgrades of network systems in a data center or enterprise environment.
