About the position

Hamamatsu, a leading supplier of advanced light detectors and detector systems, is seeking an Inside Sales Engineer III to join our team in Bridgewater, NJ. This role is pivotal in driving sales and providing technical support to our diverse customer base, which includes Fortune 100 companies, top research laboratories, and innovative startups. The Inside Sales Engineer III will be responsible for proactively pursuing new business opportunities, engaging with both new and existing customers to identify their needs and provide tailored solutions. This position requires a strong understanding of photonics technology and its applications, as well as the ability to effectively communicate technical information to customers. In this role, you will be expected to develop and maintain a quarterly sales plan that outlines your strategies for increasing regional sales. You will also be responsible for opportunity qualification and progression, ensuring that potential leads are effectively managed and converted into sales. Your technical expertise will be essential in providing support to university and end-user customers, helping them select the right products for their specific applications. Additionally, territory and account management will be a key aspect of your responsibilities, requiring you to maintain strong relationships with customers and ensure their ongoing satisfaction with our products and services. The ideal candidate will have a background in physics or electrical engineering, with at least three years of experience in an engineering role that involves significant customer interaction. You should possess strong problem-solving skills and be able to demonstrate a proven track record of addressing complex customer challenges. Proficiency in Microsoft Office is required, and familiarity with Customer Resource Management Software and international business development will be advantageous. This position may also involve travel to customer sites, so the ability to transport yourself to and from appointments is necessary.

Responsibilities

  • Proactively pursue new business with new or existing customers by identifying potential customers, contacting them to discover opportunities and using incoming lead qualification and quotation follow-up techniques
  • Provide university and/or end user technical and sales support
  • Increase regional sales through product selection support for end-users and small OEM's
  • Opportunity qualification and progression
  • Develop and maintain a quarterly plan to drive sales activities
  • Demonstrate proficiency with photonics technology and their applications
  • Manage territory and accounts effectively

Requirements

  • BS Degree in Physics, Electrical Engineering or related discipline
  • Three (3) years of experience functioning in an engineering role with significant customer interface and with a proven track record of solving customer's complex problems
  • The ability to transport yourself to and from appointments
  • Intermediate level skills with Microsoft Office

Nice-to-haves

  • 4 years' experience in photonics industry
  • 2 years' inside sales experience
  • 1 year application support for technical OEM sales
