About the position

As an Inside Sales Key Account Manager at Quill, you will be responsible for managing some of the largest customers across the country. This role requires a strategic approach to sales, utilizing various channels such as phone, social selling, email, and on-site visits to execute sales strategies effectively. You will need to maintain a comprehensive understanding of Quill's products and service programs to educate customers and consolidate business based on their specific needs. This position demands a high level of business acumen, sales strategy, and professionalism, as you will be negotiating purchasing agreements and long-term contracts with customers who may spend upwards of $2 million annually. Your role will involve collaborating with various internal departments, including marketing and merchandising, to coordinate trade shows, mailings, and new product lines. You will also work closely with suppliers on large orders and pricing, ensuring that you can meet the demands of high-volume customers. Engaging with high-level decision-makers such as CFOs and purchasing agents will be a key part of your strategy, as you educate them on the programs Quill offers. In addition to managing existing accounts, you will be expected to acquire new business and grow sales, all while meeting or exceeding productivity metrics and goals. The position also includes mentoring opportunities within the sales department, allowing you to share your expertise and lead strategy meetings. With over $40 million of business managed within the Key Account Manager group, your ability to execute sales strategies and contracts effectively will be crucial to gaining market share and retaining large customers.

Responsibilities

  • Manage Quill's largest customers located throughout the country.
  • Execute sales strategies through phone, social selling, email/digital, and on-site visits.
  • Maintain thorough knowledge of products and service programs to educate customers based on their needs.
  • Think creatively to appease large volume customers and implement new ideas into the sales strategy.
  • Negotiate purchasing agreements and long-term contracts with customers spending $2 million annually.
  • Collaborate with Staples legal team and finance department during the contract process.
  • Visit approximately 15+ customers nationally each year, including customer conferences and trade shows.
  • Work with marketing and merchandising to coordinate trade shows, mailings, and new product lines.
  • Collaborate with suppliers on large orders, pricing, and samples.
  • Interact with high-level decision makers throughout the selling strategy.
  • Collaborate with sales operations manager on custom procurement platforms.
  • Participate in mentor programs to coach the Sales Department and lead sales strategy meetings.
  • Manage high-risk contracts requiring long-term planning and execution of sales strategies.
  • Meet or exceed productivity metrics and goals.
  • Retain large customers and acquire new business to grow sales.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • 2 years prior experience in managing national account sales.
  • Availability to travel.

  • Proficient computer skills and knowledge of Microsoft Office.
