About the position

Fishbeck is seeking a full-time Civil Field Technician to work in one of our Mid-West offices, specifically focusing on DOT projects. The primary duties of this position include field observation and documentation of construction contractors' activities to ensure conformance with contract requirements. The ideal candidate must be willing to travel and work in an outdoor environment, making this a great opportunity to gain experience on a variety of projects and develop a career in field inspection. As a Civil Field Technician, you will be responsible for preparing thorough inspector's daily reports (IDRs) that detail the status of the work, including verification of work completed, item postings, materials associations, and job site conditions. You will work closely with office technicians to ensure proper IDR procedures are followed and submit these reports in a timely manner. Additionally, you will be required to complete and submit various calculations, sketches, and applicable forms, such as the Inspectors Daily Report of Concrete Placed, Permit to Place, and Drilled Shaft Inspection Report forms. Your role will also involve verifying and documenting that construction adheres to contract requirements, communicating with senior staff on issues of non-compliance, and assisting with Requests for Information. You will serve as a liaison between the contractor and senior technician or engineer to resolve constructability issues or questions. Effective communication with the project team and stakeholders, including project engineers, senior technicians, testing technicians, survey staff, contractors, business owners, and residents, will be essential. You will work closely with senior technicians and engineers to verify and document the proper execution of project designs.

Responsibilities

Requirements

  • Associates degree or equivalent experience in Civil Engineering Technology, Construction Management, Concrete Technology, or similar.
  • 2-5+ years' experience performing inspection on DOT projects is a plus.
  • Experience performing inspection for municipal or local agency projects is acceptable.
  • Experience with or knowledge of DOT documentation requirements and use of Field Manager/Fieldbook is a plus.
  • Must have a valid driver's license with a good driving record.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, follow direction, and work independently.
  • Experience utilizing Microsoft Office including Word, Outlook, and Excel is a plus, but not required.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience performing inspection for municipal or local agency projects is acceptable.
  • Experience with or knowledge of DOT documentation requirements and use of Field Manager/Fieldbook is a plus.
