About the position

The Inspector at HF Sinclair plays a crucial role in ensuring the mechanical integrity of refinery equipment through advanced inspection duties. This position involves leading inspection activities, directing the work of others, and establishing policies and practices within the Inspection Department. The Inspector acts as a liaison with other departments and is responsible for overseeing quality assurance programs, managing inspection scopes, and providing guidance to less experienced inspectors.

Responsibilities

  • Leads and conducts advanced inspection duties and assignments for the Inspection Department under minimal supervision.
  • Ensures mechanical integrity of refinery equipment by performing inspections on pressure vessels, piping, boilers, storage tanks, and relief devices.
  • Ensures company records comply with regulatory requirements and certifies equipment integrity.
  • Maintains RBI based IDMS for equipment to determine corrosion rates and inspection scopes.
  • Interprets inspection results, analyzes trends, and prioritizes corrective actions based on findings.
  • Oversees quality assurance program implementation for new construction and repairs or alterations.
  • Builds Turnaround Inspection Scopes and manages 3rd Party Inspection crews during Turnaround activities.
  • Coordinates Turnaround Support activities and turnarounds for new construction.
  • Provides guidance to less experienced Inspectors.
  • Approves work of Contracted Inspections and NDE services providers, including pneumatic and hydrostatic testing.
  • May make Auto Cad changes for new installations.
  • Issues Equipment Deficiencies and non-conformance reports; tracks overdue Inspection Work Requests and issues repair recommendations.
  • Develops inspection plans and reviews inspection department procedures.
  • Stands in for Inspection Manager during absence and participates in budgeting process.
  • Works closely with other department stakeholders to drive asset reliability.

Requirements

  • A minimum of 10 years of on-the-job experience, including significant time as an NDE Technician, Inspector, or in Maintenance.
  • Experience should include design, construction, repairs, inspection, or operations of pressure vessels, piping, and tanks, with familiarity in welding processes.
  • A minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree or an equivalent combination of education and work experience is required.
  • Ability to lead and direct the work of other associates.
  • Advanced knowledge of inspection methods and ability to apply this knowledge as it pertains to the company.
  • Certifications in API-510, API-570, API-653, AWS CWI, and ASNT SNT-TC-1A Level II in RT, UT, MT, PT, VT may be required depending on location.
  • Familiarity with MS Office suite and data management programs used within the Inspection Department.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills, advanced reading and writing skills, and the ability to perform intermediate mathematical calculations.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience using an RBI focused Inspection Database Management System (IDMS) is preferred.
  • Experience in a Supervisory role is preferred.
