About the position

As a Field Service Engineer II at Applied Materials, you will play a crucial role in the installation and integration of advanced wafer fabrication systems, which are essential for the semiconductor manufacturing process. This position is particularly suited for military veterans or transitioning military technicians who possess a strong technical skill set, including experience in avionics, electrical systems, and mechanical maintenance. You will be traveling extensively, with 75-90% of your time spent on-site at customer locations around the globe, ensuring that these multi-million-dollar systems are installed correctly and function optimally. Your daily responsibilities will involve working with a variety of complex systems, including precision optics, hydraulics, thermal systems, lasers, advanced control software, pneumatic controls, gas and chemical delivery systems, computers and networking systems, scanning electron microscopes, and robotics. The work environment is ultra-clean, surpassing the cleanliness of a typical hospital operating room, which underscores the importance of maintaining high standards of cleanliness and safety in your work. In this role, you will perform standard service activities, including Tier I and Tier II support, with the ability to conduct routine preventative maintenance and quality repairs. You will be expected to communicate effectively with other engineers, participate in escalation calls, and verify the operational quality of system equipment. Following established procedures and checklists is critical, as is the ability to diagnose and resolve technical problems with minimal supervision. You will also be responsible for ensuring customer satisfaction and maintaining excellent relationships with customer management, all while adhering to safety protocols and guidelines.

Responsibilities

  • Perform all standard service activities through Tier I unassisted and Tier II with assistance.
  • Conduct routine preventative maintenance within established timeframes and complete quality repairs.
  • Respond to fab issues by communicating with other engineers and participating in escalation conference calls.
  • Verify operational quality of system equipment unassisted and assist senior engineers as needed.
  • Follow all checklists and procedures, ensuring correct revisions of procedures and schematics are available prior to performing work.
  • Strive to perform Best Known Methods (BKM) and use knowledge management systems while following all Intellectual Property (IP) guidelines.
  • Diagnose and resolve recurring technical problems and demonstrate consistent ability to execute escalation plans.
  • Support the preparation and delivery of technical issues to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Apply diagnostic techniques and use documentation and test equipment with assistance from senior engineers.
  • Assume responsibility for complete customer satisfaction within work area and assist in planning and coordinating support plans with customer management.

Requirements

  • Associate's Degree in a relevant field.
  • 2 - 4 years of experience in a technical role, preferably in a related field such as avionics, electrical systems, or mechanical maintenance.
  • Established skills to perform a range of day-to-day activities related to field service engineering.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with precision optics, hydraulics, thermal systems, lasers, and advanced control software.
  • Familiarity with gas and chemical delivery systems, computers and networking systems, scanning electron microscopes, and robotics.
