About the position

The Installation Engineer at Hiab is responsible for designing and developing load handling solutions, managing projects from concept through testing to completion. This role involves preparing models and detailed drawings using 2D/3D design software, creating installation package drawings, and providing engineering support to various teams. The engineer will work closely with service, installations, sales, and marketing to address customer needs and ensure compliance with safety and quality standards.

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop load handling solutions.
  • Manage projects from concept through testing and drive them to completion.
  • Prepare models and detailed drawings using 2D/3D design software for assemblies and parts.
  • Create installation package drawings, hydraulic and/or electrical schematics.
  • Lead design reviews.
  • Provide engineering support to sales, shop, and field personnel as required.
  • Work with Service, Installations, Sales, and Marketing on new or revised applications.
  • Investigate applications and make design changes when required.
  • Support Service, Installations, Sales, and Marketing to resolve customer problems related to design, installation, maintenance, and operation of products.
  • Accurately maintain all engineering design and test documentation.
  • Ensure design follows all applicable laws, customer specifications, and safety requirements.
  • Maintain an acceptable performance on Engineering Change Request (ECR) processing and backlog.
  • Perform mathematical calculations for design including stability and load calculations.
  • Maintain a library of current literature and reports.
  • Participate in the development and refinement of engineering computer-aided tools.
  • Comply with all Safety and Environmental requirements.
  • Interface with Sales and customers.

Requirements

  • B.S. in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent degree/experience required.
  • Three or more years of experience in a similar field, preferably in the truck equipment industry.
  • Experience with weldments, sheet metal, hydraulics, and lean manufacturing concepts preferred.
  • Proficient in 3D CAD design; Solidworks experience is a plus.
  • Knowledge of DC power systems and hydraulics is a plus.
  • Proven mechanical design capabilities considering bending, shear, torsion, and buckling.
  • Proficient in 2D/3D CAD design.
  • Computer literate with knowledge of Microsoft Office software or Google Docs.
  • Good knowledge of product function and application.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Ability to work well with others.

  • Experience with hydraulic systems and components.
  • Familiarity with industry standards and regulations.
