About the position

The Refrigeration Installation / Startup Technician is responsible for performing start-up and functionality checks on newly installed HVAC, plumbing, and electrical components, equipment, and systems. This role involves working under limited supervision, making decisions based on expertise, and providing guidance to less experienced technicians. The technician will ensure compliance with engineering specifications and city codes while interfacing with customers and subcontractors to ensure proper equipment operation.

Responsibilities

  • Completes all required documentation and routes to appropriate manager/supervisor.
  • Interfaces with customers and clients, internal managers, and vendors.
  • Works under limited supervision, making decisions based on expertise and knowledge.
  • Follows defined procedures but has the authority to deviate when necessary.
  • Trains and provides guidance to less experienced Start-Up Technicians.
  • Performs start-up and functionality checking on newly installed HVAC, plumbing, and electrical components.
  • Checks newly installed equipment for operation according to engineering or factory specifications.
  • Ensures all components and systems are installed per applicable city and trade code.
  • Works directly with subcontractors or vendors to ensure proper operation of equipment.
  • Interprets drawings, identifies errors/omissions, and advises the appropriate supervisor.
  • Installs, connects, or adjusts thermostats, humidistats, sensors, controllers, and mechanical parts.
  • Disassembles and reassembles commercial mechanical and plumbing equipment for troubleshooting and maintenance.
  • Ensures newly installed equipment is level and aligned.
  • Explains the work performed to the satisfaction of the customer.
  • Diagnoses HVAC, refrigeration, plumbing, and electrical system performance through observation and testing.
  • Completes necessary documents for customer paperwork and EPA requirements.
  • Maintains and manages truck inventory in an orderly manner.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED required, or ten years of related experience and/or training.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience with a High School diploma or GED, or zero years with a Technical Degree.
  • EPA 608 Certification level 3 required.
  • Valid Driver's license and a safe driving record required.
  • Physically able to climb ladders, work at high elevations, and lift objects up to fifty pounds.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Technical Degree preferred.
  • Experience in HVAC, plumbing, and electrical systems.
