About the position

The Institutional Research Data Analyst at Thomas Edison State University plays a crucial role in supporting strategic and operational decision-making through data analysis and research. This position involves collecting and evaluating data, creating reports related to student success, and conducting predictive modeling to enhance graduation outcomes. The analyst will work closely with senior leadership to assess the health of the university and contribute to initiatives aimed at improving student retention and engagement.

Responsibilities

  • Designs, implements, and reports on extensive research and statistical analysis pertaining to university issues.
  • Leverages statistical analysis to reveal trends related to student success and identify equity gaps.
  • Responds to specific research questions and data requests from within and outside the institution.
  • Utilizes external databases to address student-related issues and obtain peer comparison data.
  • Prepares user-friendly data visualizations for presentations and reports.
  • Produces information needed for external compliance surveys and reports.
  • Assists with the development and maintenance of a data glossary and standard operating procedures.
  • Identifies, documents, and resolves data integrity and coding issues.
  • Assists the Director with producing data reports and developing presentations for various audiences.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a field related to data analysis, research, or assessment (Master's preferred).
  • At least 2 years of professional experience in a higher education institution related to Institutional Research or academic data analysis.
  • Knowledge of issues related to adult students in higher education.
  • Experience with statistical analysis, report writing, and research design.
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Office and statistical software applications (e.g., SPSS).
  • Proficiency with interactive data visualization tools (Power BI preferred).
  • Strong analytical reasoning, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • 3 or more years of Institutional Research experience.
  • Experience with career outcome tools and academic program reviews.
  • Knowledge about factors that predict success in adult college students.
