About the position
The Cambridge Public Schools is seeking an Instructional Aide to support students with disabilities in the Office of Student Services at Fletcher-Maynard Academy. This position involves working closely with special educators to implement Individualized Educational Plans (IEPs) for students. The role is vital in ensuring that students receive the necessary support to thrive in their educational environment. The instructional aide will work 7 hours per day for 11 months, contributing to a diverse and inclusive educational setting that serves approximately 7,000 students from various backgrounds.
Responsibilities
- Assist in the implementation of each student's Individualized Educational Plan (IEP)
- Provide assistance with instruction for students with disabilities
- Supervise students with disabilities during non-instructional activities
- Supervise students during transitions
- Collaborate with general education, special education, and related services staff
- Accommodate and modify for student learning
- Support the general education teacher with the implementation of appropriate accommodations in the general education setting
- Perform related duties as designated by the special educator or supervisor
- Assist with toileting of students as required
Requirements
- Above average skills in collaboration
- Excellent skills in oral communication
- Demonstrated ability to problem solve
- Experience working with students in urban environments
- Energetic, enthusiastic, patient, and flexible
- Ability to address the physical, educational, and social-emotional needs of students
- Willingness to be trained in de-escalation and safe physical restraint techniques
- Physical ability to work on the floor and move around the room to support students and teachers
- Associates degree, or 48 college credits from an accredited college or university
