About the position

The Instructional Aide provides instructional assistance to students under the direct supervision of a classroom teacher. The role involves preparing, conducting, and managing classroom activities to support student learning.

Responsibilities

  • Provide instruction to students under the direction of the teacher, working with individual students or small groups.
  • Assist the teacher in preparing instructional materials, classroom displays, instructional packets, attendance, and instructional videos.
  • Assist in implementing lessons and activities through virtual/distance learning via Google Classroom and other multimedia options when necessary.
  • Assist with administration and scoring of objective testing instruments or work assignments.
  • Help maintain a neat and orderly classroom.
  • Help with inventory, care, and maintenance of equipment.
  • Help the teacher keep administrative records and prepare required reports.
  • Provide orientation and assistance to substitute teachers.
  • Distribute and collect workbooks, papers, and/or instructional materials as directed by the teacher.
  • Guide independent study, enrichment work, and remedial work as assigned by the teacher.
  • Help supervise students throughout the school day, inside and outside the classroom, including lunchroom, bus, and playground duty.
  • Make the teacher aware of special needs or problems of individual students.
  • Help students master equipment or instructional materials assigned by the teacher.
  • Maintain confidentiality.
  • Participate in staff development training programs to improve job performance.
  • Participate in faculty meetings and special events as assigned.
  • Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or hold a General Educational Development (GED) certificate.
  • Have met formal academic assessment, associate's degree, or two years of study at an institution of higher learning (2 years defined as completion of 48 semester hours).
  • Valid Texas Educational Aide Certificate.
  • Some experience working with children.

  • Ability to assist in instructing reading, writing, and mathematics.
  • Ability to work well with children.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and work cooperatively with others.
  • Ability to demonstrate tact, courtesy, and helpfulness in dealing with staff, students, parents, and visitors.
  • Ability to provide virtual/distance learning to students via Google Classroom and other multimedia options.
