About the position

The Instructional Assistant 4, Alt Ed position at Twality Middle School involves supporting students in an alternative education setting. The role focuses on providing both empathetic and disciplinary guidance to students, assisting them with study skills, organizational skills, behavior management, and academic support. The assistant will work closely with students one-on-one and in small groups, while also maintaining effective communication with staff and parents.

Responsibilities

  • Assist and communicate with students using empathetic and disciplinarian approaches.
  • Supervise students in both general and targeted settings.
  • Support students with study skills, organizational skills, behavior management, and academics.
  • Make independent judgments within prescribed policies and procedures.
  • Employ good judgment in various situations, including emergencies.
  • Work effectively with a variety of students and demonstrate a willingness to learn.
  • Comprehend and follow oral and written instructions within established timelines.
  • Maintain confidentiality and a non-judgmental manner towards students and staff.
  • Develop and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors and staff.
  • Attend and participate in team meetings and training seminars.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Two years minimum of post high school education is required.
  • Oregon Driver's License or ability to commute to work in a timely manner.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.
  • Knowledge of or ability to learn quickly about educational programs.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience working with high needs students.
  • Certifications or training in blood sugar testing, bee sting protocols, or dispensing of prescription medication.
