About the position
The Instructional Assistant in the Media Center at Wake County Public School System provides essential instructional support to classroom teachers and assists in various administrative tasks. This role focuses on implementing educational goals and objectives, working directly with students to enhance their learning experience across all curricular areas. The assistant collaborates with teachers to develop strategies that reinforce skills and concepts tailored to individual student needs.
Responsibilities
- Assist classroom teachers in instructional activities and general administrative tasks.
- Implement goals and objectives established by licensed teachers.
- Work directly with students in all curricular areas as directed by teachers or administrators.
- Plan and collaborate with teachers to devise special strategies for reinforcing skills and concepts.
- Maintain a safe and encouraging environment for all students.
- Prepare necessary materials for lessons and ensure they are readily available.
- Participate in district staff development programs for professional growth.
- Perform vision and hearing screenings and enter results into the student information system.
- Demonstrate professional and technical skills necessary for effective classroom functioning.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED.
- Working toward an Associate's degree in early childhood education or related field, or a Child Development Associate (CDA) credential.
- Six documented semester hours of coursework in early childhood education or two years of work experience in an early childhood setting.
