About the position

The Instructional Assistant for PreK at San Antonio ISD plays a crucial role in supporting the educational development of young children. This position involves assisting certified teachers in delivering instructional activities, managing classroom behavior, and providing care for students. The role is designed to foster a positive learning environment and support the academic and social growth of students under the guidance of a certified educator.

Responsibilities

  • Work with individual students or small student groups to conduct instructional activities and develop academic skills as outlined by the teacher.
  • Assist with the physical care of children (toileting, meals, sanitation, etc.).
  • Work with parents/families as the primary educator in their child's education.
  • Assist teacher in preparing instructional materials, paperwork and classroom displays.
  • Provide orientation, guidance, and assistance to substitute teachers as needed.
  • Assist teachers in implementing program objectives that support developmental, behavioral, and academic student performance.
  • Keep teacher informed of special needs or problems of individual students.
  • Serve as a positive role model for children and support the mission of SAISD.
  • Assist in managing student behavior, including crisis intervention, physical management of disruptive students and inappropriate behaviors, as needed.
  • Assist with maintaining a safe, neat, and orderly classroom.
  • Help with inventory, care and maintenance of equipment, books, and supplies.
  • Assist with the supervision and monitoring of students throughout the school day inside and outside of the classroom, including the cafeteria, playground, physical education classes, boarding and exiting the bus, on community-based activities and other assigned activities.
  • Assist in maintaining administrative/student records and prepare required reports.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned within the appropriate skill and experience capabilities expected for this position.

Requirements

  • Must have an Associates degree or higher from an accredited college/university, or a minimum of forty-eight (48) semester college hours from an accredited college or university, or a high school diploma/GED with completion of the paraeducator training course with a passing score, or Treasuring Our Paraprofessionals certificate.
  • Eligible to obtain a paraprofessional certificate issued by the State Board of Educator Certification.
  • Valid CDA (Child Development Associate) credential within 2 years of employment for the assignment.
  • Satisfactory outcome of fingerprinting background check.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.

  • Entry hourly rate of $16.50 with consideration for directly related experience.
  • At-will employment agreement with 183 days per year terms.
