About the position
The Instructional Assistant for Special Education provides essential support to teachers in coordinating instructional programs for students with disabilities, ensuring compliance with Individual Education Plans (IEPs). This role involves monitoring student progress, maintaining confidentiality, and creating a conducive learning environment while adhering to federal, state, and local regulations related to special education.
Responsibilities
- Provides support and assistance to teachers in coordinating instructional programs for special education students.
- Ensures a safe and encouraging environment for all students.
- Assists teachers with strategies related to behavioral intervention plans.
- Aids in planning, organizing, and evaluating instructional activities.
- Prepares necessary materials for lessons according to student needs.
- Demonstrates professional skills to support student achievement.
- Maintains a positive disposition and good judgment when dealing with students.
- Provides in-class support to promote student independence and self-determination.
- Assists with the implementation of assistive technology and communication devices.
- Compiles and maintains reports and records while ensuring confidentiality.
- Participates in staff development programs for professional growth.
- Facilitates student transitions between classes and assists with special health care needs.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Working towards an Associate's degree in early childhood education or related field, or a Child Development Associate (CDA) credential.
- Experience working with individuals with special needs is preferred.
- Crisis Prevention and Intervention (CPI) certification required, training provided if needed.
