About the position

The K-12 Curriculum Specialist at Rapid City Area Schools is responsible for providing collaborative support to administration and staff in effective instructional and assessment practices. This role involves leading the curriculum adoption process, designing professional learning opportunities, and facilitating the district's Professional Learning Communities (PLCs). The specialist will work closely with staff to develop and implement instructional models and assess educational outcomes, ensuring alignment with best practices in education.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with the facilitation of the district Professional Learning Communities (PLCs).
  • Collaborate with and lead staff to develop, implement, and monitor effective models for instruction, assessment, enrichment, and intervention.
  • Lead/assist in the research, adoption, and implementation of curriculum materials and instructional technology.
  • Serve as a standing member on the Rapid City Area Schools Instructional Council and coordinate with district offices and building administration.
  • Collaborate with staff in accessing, developing, interpreting, and utilizing appropriate assessment options.
  • Participate in personal professional learning opportunities and apply knowledge of current research and best practices.
  • Maintain confidentiality of students and their families.
  • Monitor and comply with federal, state, and district policies and procedures.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Master's Degree in Curriculum and Instruction preferred.
  • Minimum of five years teaching experience at the secondary level preferred.
  • Strong knowledge and application of constructivist learning principles.
  • Experience with intervention and enrichment practices.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Experience in adult staff development.
  • Experience with technology applications.
  • Experience in team building and working collaboratively.
  • Experience in strategic planning and goal setting.
  • Background in constructivist instructional practices.
  • Background in assessment measures.
