About the position
The Instructional Coach is responsible for providing appropriate instruction to students and ensuring that they meet the learning objectives and standards for their grade level and subject area. This position involves planning and implementing West Virginia academic standards, content, and objectives, as well as adopting and supplementing academic programs. The coach will also implement technology skills, inclusion with special education students, and collaborate with other professional staff to enhance instruction. The role includes administering formative assessments, communicating with students, parents, and peers, and fostering a conducive classroom climate for learning. The coach will also participate in professional development and facilitate the implementation of the adopted curriculum, providing ongoing support and resources to teachers.
Responsibilities
- Responsible for planning and implementing WV academic standards, content, and objectives
- Responsible for implementing adopted and supplemental academic programs
- Responsible for implementing technology skills
- Responsible for planning and implementing inclusion with special education students
- Responsible for student achievement with teachers
- Responsible for planning and implementing co-teaching as appropriate
- Analyze data and plan academic support
- Collaborate with other professional staff to enhance instruction
- Responsible for planning and implementing designated co-curricular activities and/or programs at the school such as curricular fairs, awards programs, and field trips
- Responsible for administering formative assessments
- Offer support for personalized learning
- Communicate with students, parents, and peers in an efficient manner
- Foster a classroom climate conducive to learning
- Address and implement students' IEPs and 504 Plans and recommend revisions when needed
- Meet professional responsibilities
- Maintain professional work habits and adhere to the Teacher Code of Conduct
- Implement any other programs designated by principal for school improvement
- Includes supervisory and/or other duties as assigned by Principal
- Read journals/research reports and articulate research supported practices in education
- Participate in professional development at local, state, and national level
- Facilitate the implementation of the adopted curriculum
- Provide ongoing professional development based on the needs of the school through data analysis and teacher's identified areas of need
- Observe and collaborate with teachers to plan lessons using scientifically-based, researched instructional strategies
- Model best teaching methods and strategies based on the latest research and data in all disciplines
- Help teachers incorporate technology into instruction; coordinate with the Technology Integration Specialists
- Conduct professional development and/or work with teachers to understand the WV Next Generation Standards and classroom assessment for learning to improve instruction
- Assist with implementation of writing, vocabulary, comprehension, inquiry-based math, critical thinking, and accelerated learning strategies across curriculum areas
- Provide resources beyond the textbook to use in lesson planning and instruction
- Lead professional learning communities to review student work and change instructional practice accordingly
- Prepare a 'menu of services' to support teachers
- Prepare a schedule to meet at least monthly with principals and teachers at each school
- Prepare a weekly work schedule and submit to each principal
Requirements
- Valid teaching certificate licensing the individual to teach in the specializations and grade levels, pursuant to WV Code §18A-3-2
- Criminal background check conducted pursuant to WV Code §18-5-15c and/or §18A-3-10, as appropriate
- Meet the qualifications outlined in WV Code §18A-3-2a
