About the position

The Instructional Coach at City Year plays a crucial role in supporting the academic strategy and model aimed at achieving school and student outcome goals. This position focuses on creating instructional learning experiences for AmeriCorps members and staff, ensuring an inclusive and equitable academic environment, and actively participating in the City Year community to further the organization's Long-Term Impact Strategy.

Responsibilities

  • Support student level impact through coaching and intervention support.
  • Collaborate to provide one-on-one, team-level, and site level academic intervention training and support to Corps members.
  • Provide focused support to help Corps members deliver quality tutoring for their students to improve grades, complete homework, and organize for success in school.
  • Conduct monthly Observation & Coaching Sessions for AmeriCorps members in the portfolio of schools.
  • Work with Impact Managers to develop a team level needs assessment to identify AmeriCorps members' academic comfort levels and training needs.
  • Execute an annual observation and coaching plan by observing all Corps members at assigned schools.
  • Develop a list of 'Coaching Cycle' AmeriCorps members across 5-6 assigned schools and support Impact Managers with co-observations as needed.
  • Assess 'Coaching Cycle' AmeriCorps members and update the list of those receiving additional support as needed.
  • Partner with Learning, Development and Evaluation team to facilitate monthly Impact conversations to review student outcomes and intervention trends.
  • Train AmeriCorps Members in understanding and utilizing assessment data for lesson planning.
  • Assist Impact Team in diagnosing service implementation gaps and recommending solutions by observing service and reviewing data.
  • Create and facilitate service-based learning and development sessions throughout the fiscal year.

Requirements

  • Mid-level experience in education or related field.
  • Strong coaching and mentoring skills.
  • Ability to analyze data and use it to inform instructional practices.
  • Experience in developing and implementing training programs.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience working with diverse student populations.
  • Familiarity with social-emotional learning (SEL) frameworks.
  • Knowledge of instructional strategies in math and literacy.
