About the position

The Instructional Course Designer at Rutgers University is responsible for creating and developing innovative, learner-centered training programs and materials across various platforms. This role focuses on performance-based systems training, utilizing methodologies such as synchronous remote learning, blended classroom learning, and interactive e-learning. The designer will work closely with the Director of myPath Training and Employee Development to assess training needs, design course structures, and evaluate training effectiveness within the Learning Management System (LMS).

Responsibilities

  • Determine course structure and levels, document, organize, prioritize, and schedule training requests within the LMS.
  • Design and deliver systems training and employee development programs.
  • Participate in routine needs assessments to identify systems training needs and programs that foster employee development.
  • Identify learning objectives, delivery techniques, and interactive learning activities during needs assessments.
  • Identify and resolve gaps or improvements to curriculum design.
  • Stay current on trends in learning technology.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in instructional course design, curriculum/instructional development, instructional technology, or a related field; or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum two years of experience in instructional course design within higher education.
  • Good interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher, and Outlook.
  • Proficiency in e-Learning rapid authoring tools such as Articulate 360 Suite, Camtasia, and SnagIt.
  • In-depth knowledge of learning and instructional theories, practices, and emerging technologies related to adult learning.
  • Ability to facilitate and present instructional materials and communicate technical information to a nontechnical audience.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with web-based course design and delivery.
  • Familiarity with AV equipment and technology for instructional purposes.
