About the position

The Instructional Design Project Manager at Milwaukee School of Engineering (MSOE) is responsible for leading the development of engaging online learning experiences across various disciplines, including engineering, technology, business, and healthcare. This role involves collaborating with faculty and stakeholders to create high-impact online programs, managing projects to ensure timely delivery and quality assurance, and overseeing independent contractors in the instructional design process. The position also supports the development of microcredentials and digital badges as part of a federal grant project, making it essential for candidates to have a strong background in instructional design and project management within higher education.

Responsibilities

  • Stay current with trends in online education and educational technology to leverage opportunities for innovation.
  • Collaborate with faculty, program managers, and stakeholders in the design and development of online learning programs.
  • Define objectives and outline concepts for courses, including content delivery and assessments.
  • Work with video production and graphics sources to produce course material.
  • Manage intake and organization of digital assets throughout the course development process.
  • Serve as the subject matter expert in alternative digital credential development.
  • Provide support to the HERA Microcredentials Project through an external contract.
  • Educate others on the established MSOE CPE Guidelines for Developing and Awarding Alternative Digital Credentials.
  • Establish and maintain a pool of independent contractors for instructional design support.
  • Manage multiple complex product development and improvement projects simultaneously.
  • Formalize and monitor individual online course development plans to ensure quality and efficiency.
  • Meet routinely with program managers to keep projects on track and discuss quality improvement strategies.
  • Contribute to program planning and evaluation efforts as a member of the CPE team.
  • Identify resources needed to ensure deadlines are met and quality standards achieved.
  • Apply University brand standards and design principles to ensure ADA compliance.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant discipline.
  • Five or more years of experience in instructional design or technology, preferably in a college or university setting.
  • Three or more years of supervisory or team leadership experience.
  • Knowledge of research and best practices in online education.
  • Experience managing initiatives/projects.
  • Instructional design skills and knowledge of adult learning principles.
  • Extensive knowledge of learning theories and their implementation in online education.
  • Demonstrated creativity and attention to detail.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience working with microcredentials and digital badging platforms.
  • Familiarity with learning management systems and technical support roles.
