About the position

The Instructional Design Specialist at the University of Oklahoma is responsible for leading the design and development of learning content for training programs, courses, and job aids. This role focuses on enhancing employee competencies through various learning delivery methods and requires collaboration with course owners and subject matter experts to assess training needs and develop effective curricula.

Responsibilities

  • Develop the overall design for training curriculum to meet identified training needs using instructional design methodology through all phases of each project, including analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation.
  • Collaborate with functional course owners, subject matter experts, and target audience to gather information needed for needs assessment and curriculum development.
  • Present the business case for new training programs, courses, or job aids to the decision board for approval.
  • Establish project plans and lead teams in the development of new learning content, monitoring completion of milestones and deliverables.
  • Design curriculum, instruction, and assessment materials using current trends and best practices in learning and development.
  • Utilize various instructional design strategies to create innovative learning experiences.
  • Follow Adult Learning Methodology to write learning objectives, storyboard content, and design learning approaches.
  • Integrate evaluation methods and tools within training to measure impact and effectiveness through assessments.
  • Ensure compliance with established learning standards and training requirements for all content and programs.
  • Conduct reviews of training programs to evaluate effectiveness and benchmark against industry standards.
  • Stay updated on training and development research and innovative ideas to enhance learning materials and methods.

Requirements

  • Degree in Instructional Design, Education (with a concentration in Adult Education or Training and Development), Educational Psychology, or a related field from an accredited institution.
  • Ability to manage projects and programs, including developing plans and timelines, determining resource requirements, assigning tasks, monitoring progress, and reporting results.
  • Ability to develop instructional content compliant with SCORM and Section 508 Accessibility requirements.
  • Proficiency in using authoring tools to develop learning content, including Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Adobe Creative Cloud, Articulate Storyline 360, Adobe Captivate 2019, TechSmith Camtasia, and Snagit.
  • Knowledge of adult learning theory, instructional technology, and instructional design principles.
  • Ability to develop training content that meets training needs and complies with requirements and standards.
  • Effective communication skills, both written and orally.
  • Research skills to stay informed on evolving industry standards related to instructional design and eLearning practices.

  • Experience with Articulate Storyline for learning content development.
  • Familiarity with digital technology and blended learning methodologies.
