About the position

Wright State University is seeking two Instructional Designers to support faculty in the development and delivery of synchronous and asynchronous online and distance learning courses. The role involves performing course content reviews to ensure alignment with learning objectives, accuracy, and adherence to institutional guidelines. The Instructional Designers will develop and deliver needs-based training to faculty and staff, collaborating with them to create engaging learning experiences by integrating technology, educational theory, and best practices.

Responsibilities

  • Support faculty members in developing or redeveloping courses for new and/or existing programs based on appropriate pedagogy, andragogy, and heutagogy.
  • Conduct regular reviews and audits to maintain instructional design excellence.
  • Evaluate submitted courses for adherence to institutional expectations, accessibility requirements, and industry standards.
  • Drive innovative curriculum design initiatives by introducing new pedagogical approaches and integrating emerging instructional design trends.
  • Offer project leadership for large-scale initiatives, establishing clear goals and monitoring progress.
  • Serve as a specialist for best practices and approaches for online, hybrid, and traditional class design.
  • Stay current with teaching practices, research, and industry trends in education.
  • Develop supporting documentation for faculty, transforming complex information into accessible materials.
  • Conduct workshops in applying instructional design strategies to various learning modes.
  • Develop training materials and technical documentation.
  • Liaise with other departments to understand faculty training needs.
  • Organize and coordinate logistics of faculty in-services.
  • Assist in assessing the effectiveness of faculty professional development.
  • Coordinate faculty peer-sharing of best practices.
  • Collaborate with others to provide faculty development opportunities.
  • Assist in building a repository of training resources for faculty and staff.
  • Support the semester opening and closing of courses in the LMS.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in Instructional Design, Instructional Technology, or equivalent professional experience with a minimum of three years of relevant experience, OR Bachelor's Degree with a minimum of five years of relevant experience.
  • Evidence of collaborating with others to develop effective hybrid and online learning courses.
  • Ability to work independently and as a productive team member.
  • Commitment to continuous learning and staying updated with industry trends.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines.
  • Knowledge of learning theory and instructional design theory.
  • Demonstrated skill in designing assessment/evaluation processes/tools.
  • Knowledge of emerging technologies and best practices in higher education.
  • Outstanding communication skills, verbal and written.
  • Project management and problem-solving skills.
  • Initiative associated with all professional duties.
  • Demonstrated ability of critical inquiry, critical thinking, and information literacy.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with learning management systems and designing courses.
  • Background in educational multimedia production, storyboarding, digital development, graphic design, and video production.
  • Experience in conducting workshops in instructional design.
  • Professional certification in areas related to compliance and instructional design.
