About the position

The Instructional Designer for Adult/Online Learning at Georgia Southern University is responsible for collaborating with faculty and various departments to develop and enhance online and hybrid learning programs. This role focuses on applying research-based principles of course design to meet the needs of adult learners and ensure compliance with educational standards.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with faculty and instructional designers to integrate instructional and interactive technologies into courses and programs
  • Assist faculty with development, design, and course production processes
  • Inform and assist faculty and staff on copyright law, ADA accessibility, and compliance issues
  • Support faculty and student success in various aspects
  • Collaborate with faculty and library staff to support the adoption of open educational resources
  • Design, develop, and integrate innovative concepts into online course content in a learning management system
  • Work with subject matter experts to identify student learning needs
  • Adapt instructional materials from one format to another (e.g., face-to-face to online)
  • Apply current research, theory, and universal design principles to instructional design
  • Analyze course design against set standards
  • Assist with institutional projects and initiatives related to building the online campus
  • Assist with building courses that bridge Continuing and Professional Education with Academic Affairs, specifically for prior learning programs

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • One (1) or more years of work-related experience in distance or online education
  • Two (2) or more years of experience using a learning management system (Desire2Learn, Blackboard, Moodle, etc.)

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's Degree or graduate coursework
  • Experience with Brightspace Desire2Learn
  • Demonstrated experience with instructional design in a higher education setting, including assistive technologies, universal design for learning, and other accessibility tools for online courses
  • Demonstrated experience working with faculty
  • Experience with Quality Matters or other measures of online course standards and quality
