About the position

The Office of Digital Learning (ODL) at the University of Maryland, College Park, is seeking an Instructional Designer Assistant to support various initiatives aimed at enhancing instructional quality and student engagement. This position is integral to the ODL team, which focuses on innovating instruction through immersive workshops and personalized faculty coaching. The assistant will work closely with instructional designers to ensure that courses meet design, quality, and accessibility standards, contributing significantly to the development of engaging learning experiences for students. In this role, the Instructional Designer Assistant will be responsible for conducting content reviews, proofreading, and editing materials within the Canvas learning management system. The assistant will also participate in quality assurance reviews of designed courses, ensuring compliance with established design and accessibility guidelines. This position offers the opportunity to engage in creative problem-solving to meet both professional and instructional requirements, ultimately enhancing the learning experience for students. The role is designed for a detail-oriented, organized, and self-motivated individual who can work independently and communicate effectively with management. The assistant will be expected to adhere to schedules and meet deadlines while managing various tasks, including implementing digital accessibility guidelines, assessing digital assets for compliance, and editing content to align with accessibility standards. This position allows for remote work, providing flexibility while maintaining a commitment to excellence and reliability.

Responsibilities

  • Support instructional designers in completing content reviews, proofreading, and editing in Canvas.
  • Conduct quality assurance reviews for designed courses to ensure compliance with design, quality, and accessibility standards.
  • Contribute to the development of videos, readings, and activities for student engagement.
  • Implement Digital Accessibility Guidelines across various digital assets.
  • Assess digital assets such as Canvas sites, Excel documents, Word documents, videos, and PDFs for conformance against accessibility guidelines.
  • Proofread content to ensure clarity and accuracy.
  • Provide digital asset support including script writing, storyboarding, review, and light editing.
  • Research content and educational best practices to inform instructional design.
  • Edit content to conform to accessibility standards.

Requirements

  • Must be a University of Maryland College Park undergraduate student.
  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to learn quickly and comprehend complex information.
  • Ability to write with clarity and concision in a fast-paced work environment under competing deadlines.

Nice-to-haves
