About the position

The Instructional Designer position at Paradise Valley Community College (PVCC) is a full-time role within the Center for Teaching and Learning Employee Engagement (CTLEE) department. This department is dedicated to providing employees with opportunities for professional growth and innovative teaching strategies across various instructional environments. The Instructional Designer will play a crucial role in enhancing the educational experience for over 200,000 college students annually by collaborating with faculty, staff, and industry partners to design, develop, assess, and evaluate instructional systems and emerging technologies. The successful candidate will possess a strong foundation in instructional design principles and will be responsible for consulting with faculty to ensure high-quality learning experiences. This includes creating and implementing professional development opportunities that support best practices in teaching, learning, design, and assessment across all modalities. The role requires a physical presence on campus, with some flexibility for remote work, to effectively engage with faculty and staff. Key responsibilities include consulting and collaborating with faculty on effective instructional design strategies, facilitating professional development sessions, providing leadership and support for digital learning environments, and ensuring online courses align with Quality Matters standards. The Instructional Designer will also be expected to stay current with emerging technologies and pedagogical practices to continuously improve instructional offerings at PVCC.

Responsibilities

  • Consult and collaborate with faculty on pedagogically sound and effective use of instructional design strategies.
  • Research, develop, and facilitate the implementation of instructional applications technology including web-based resources, AI technologies, multimedia integration, assessment, and other instructional systems for course development and improvement.
  • Create and facilitate professional development learning opportunities supporting current best practices of course design and technology integration.
  • Provide leadership, training, and support to enhance digital learning environments and create new services and resources that integrate current pedagogical practices and emerging technologies.
  • Provide on-demand support for faculty and staff regarding their teaching, learning, and technology needs.
  • Support online learning course design and review courses for their alignment with Quality Matters standards.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree from a regionally accredited institution in instructional design, training and development, educational technology or related field.
  • Four years of experience in instructional design and development, program and systems development and/or assessment and evaluation.
  • An equivalent combination of education and directly related full-time work experience may be considered.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's degree in Educational Technology, Instructional Design, or closely related field.
  • Demonstrated experience consulting with faculty on instructional design projects to enhance digital learning environments and applied technologies.
  • Experience facilitating professional development learning opportunities.
  • Demonstrated experience leading a collaborative, interdisciplinary environment and providing on-demand support for faculty and staff regarding their teaching, learning, and technology needs.
  • Demonstrated experience using learning theories, instructional design theory and academic assessment techniques such as web-based resources, AI technologies, multimedia integration, assessment, and other instructional systems for curriculum development.
  • Experience using educational technology and a learning management system, preferably Canvas.
  • Demonstrated competency/certification in Quality Matters and/or universal design.
