The University of California, Irvine (UCI) is seeking an Instructional Designer for a 7-month contract position within the Division of Continuing Education. This role is pivotal in the design and development of engaging, learner-centric online courses. The Instructional Designer will merge design-thinking principles with course development strategies, collaborating closely with Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) to create content that enhances student learning. The position requires a strong understanding of various pedagogical approaches and best practices for online and hybrid course delivery, as well as competency in educational technology and project management. The Instructional Designer will prioritize the quality and operationalization of the student experience, ensuring that courses are engaging, accessible, and aligned with learning objectives. Continuous improvement of course content based on student performance and feedback is also a key responsibility. In this role, the Instructional Designer will be responsible for guiding SMEs in the development of course content and activities that are suited to the program and course focus. They will need to demonstrate strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills, as well as the ability to collaborate effectively with developers and SMEs. The position requires thorough knowledge of instructional design principles, learning strategies, and the technical tools necessary for delivering engaging online learning content. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 5 years of professional experience in online course design and delivery, along with a Master's degree or equivalent experience in instructional design principles.
