About the position

The Instructional Designer Contractor role is a remote contract position focused on collaborating with the Learning Design team to create and enhance engaging course content. This position is ideal for instructional design professionals or those seeking experience in the field, emphasizing the development of learner-centered materials aligned with educational standards.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with Learning Design Specialist to develop instructional materials, including lesson plans, assessments, and multimedia content.
  • Work with technical teams to integrate instructional content into learning management systems (LMS) or other delivery platforms.
  • Conduct iterative reviews and revisions of instructional materials based on feedback from stakeholders, subject matter experts, and learners.
  • Update courses to align with new features in Canvas and create a standard experience for students.
  • Respond to inquiries and tickets for minor revisions, updates, and fixes in courses via Service Now ticketing system.
  • Maintain documentation, records, and reports related to instructional design projects, including project plans, progress reports, and evaluations.
  • Research and recommend content for new courses using library resources, OER materials, and nontraditional learning resources.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Education or a related field (Master's degree in Instructional Design preferred) or over 3 years of relevant instructional design experience, preferably in higher education.
  • Proficiency in instructional design software, Canvas (Design Plus preferred), and e-learning authoring tools.
  • Strong knowledge of educational technology trends and best practices.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
  • Attention to detail and a commitment to quality.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously.

Nice-to-haves

  • Familiarity with ADA requirements for instructional design in traditional and online formats.
  • Familiarity with copyright law and regulations.
  • Extensive knowledge of multimedia software tools.
  • Knowledge of best practices in educational technology.
