About the position

As an Instructional Designer/Developer at the Mine Training Institute, you will play a crucial role in designing and developing curriculum that aligns with current learning theories and educational technologies. This position requires collaboration with Subject Matter Experts and external vendors to create effective and engaging adult learning opportunities for both current and newly-hired employees. You will work closely with instructors and management to ensure that the training materials meet the needs of our workforce and support Freeport-McMoRan's commitment to safe production goals. In this role, you will assist in the implementation of various instructional technologies, including learning management systems and classroom technologies. You may also evaluate individual classroom modules and courses within an established evaluation framework. Your responsibilities will include developing visually-based demonstration and simulation components of learning materials, designing assessments, and utilizing systematic workflow processes associated with Learning Content Management and Digital Assets Management Systems. Additionally, you may participate in classroom settings to guide instructors and subject matter experts on workplace learning theories and new technologies. You will have the opportunity to present topics of interest at team meetings and provide project updates during curriculum review meetings. Evaluating third-party content for instructional soundness and appropriateness for inclusion in our curricula will also be part of your duties. This position requires a strong foundation in instructional design, curriculum development, and the ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written forms. You will be expected to perform other duties as required, contributing to the overall success of the training programs at Freeport-McMoRan.

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop curriculum utilizing current learning theories and educational technologies.
  • Collaborate with Subject Matter Experts and external vendors to create effective adult learning opportunities.
  • Assist in the implementation of instructional technologies, including learning management systems and classroom technologies.
  • Evaluate individual classroom modules and courses within an established evaluation framework.
  • Develop visually-based demonstration and simulation components of learning materials using video and 3D modeling.
  • Design and process various levels of assessment and evaluation.
  • Utilize systematic workflow processes associated with Learning Content Management and Digital Assets Management Systems.
  • Guide and teach instructors and subject matter experts about workplace learning theories and new technologies.
  • Present topics of interest at team meetings and provide project updates at curriculum review meetings.
  • Evaluate third-party content for instructional soundness and appropriateness for inclusion in curricula.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Education, Instructional/Curriculum Design or related field and three (3) years of experience in face-to-face, online and/or blended learning design and development, OR High School diploma or equivalent and seven (7) years of experience in adult learning, curriculum design and development.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing.
  • Knowledge of current learning and development models.
  • Familiarity with a range of educational technologies and their application.
  • Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office suite, SharePoint and Learning and Content Management Systems.
  • Demonstrated strong teamwork and collaboration skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's degree in Instructional Design, Instructional Technology, Multi-media Design and Development or related field.
  • Experience managing training projects.
  • Experience with various course design methodologies and learning evaluation tools.
  • Experience assessing needs, designing, developing, delivering and evaluating learning and education methods in a mining environment.
  • ASTD or Langevin Instructional Systems Design Certifications in eLearning Design and Development and/or Multi-Media Design and Development.
  • Knowledge of and/or ability to develop eLearning content using authoring tools such as Articulate Storyline.
  • Proven ability to create/design multi-media interaction and demonstration materials as demonstrated by a portfolio review of video, 2D graphics, and/or 3D simulation.
