About the position

The Instructional Designer position at the University of Mississippi Medical Center involves working collaboratively with faculty and staff to enhance technology-supported teaching and learning activities across various formats, including face-to-face, blended, interactive video, and online environments. The role requires analyzing and assessing both individual and organizational training and development needs, which leads to improved productivity and quality in educational outcomes. The designer will coordinate, design, and conduct moderate to complex training and educational programs, ensuring that instructional materials are developed and maintained effectively. In this role, the Instructional Designer will collaborate with various constituent groups to create and implement strategies that promote effective technology use in educational settings. They will be responsible for understanding and communicating effective teaching strategies and pedagogical approaches that are suitable for technology-enhanced learning environments. Additionally, the designer will assist in faculty professional development and training, mentoring faculty on the effective use of technology in their teaching practices. The position also involves conducting hands-on training sessions, both in-person and virtually, and producing a variety of instructional materials, including videos, graphics, animations, and interactive media elements. Quality assurance reviews of courses and instructional materials will be a key responsibility, along with researching emerging technology initiatives and trends to keep the curriculum relevant and effective. The designer will also develop evaluation tools to assess the effectiveness of courses and provide on-ground support for faculty and staff in utilizing classroom and online technology effectively.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with various constituent groups to design, develop and implement new and existing strategies for effective technology use and application.
  • Understand and communicate effective teaching strategies and pedagogy appropriate for technology-enhanced teaching and learning environments.
  • Assist with faculty professional development and training.
  • Mentor faculty in the effective use of technology.
  • Conduct hands-on, face-to-face and virtual training sessions.
  • Produce instructional materials, including video, graphics, animations, and interactive media elements.
  • Conduct quality assurance reviews of courses and other instructional materials.
  • Research emerging technology initiatives and trends.
  • Assist in developing evaluation tools for assessment of effectiveness of courses within the academic discipline; develop appropriate training responses to address areas of improvement.
  • Provide on-ground support for faculty and staff in the use of in-classroom and online hardware and software applications utilized within school.
  • Communicate effectively using spoken and written word, as well as digital assets.
  • Display ability to provide documentation and information to customers and peers with clarity on the topic at hand.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Instructional or Educational Technology, Information Systems, Computer Science or related field.
  • 4 years of related experience or equivalent combination of education/experience.
  • Knowledge of training methodology.
  • Knowledge of customer service standards and procedures.
  • Knowledge of instructional technology, learning management systems, and theoretical concepts related to teaching and learning using technology in a hybrid, blended or online environment.
  • Experience with a variety of educational software applications.
  • Knowledge of technological trends/developments.
  • Verbal and written communication skills.
  • Teaching and facilitation skills.
  • Ability to determine training objectives.
  • Ability to design, develop, implement and evaluate training plans, curricula, and methodology.
  • Experience creating instructional materials.
  • Knowledge of educational theory and understanding of curriculum design.
