About the position

The Instructional Designer for Foundational Math is responsible for designing, planning, coordinating, and conducting professional development workshops that focus on pedagogical and technological strategies for mathematics faculty and teaching teams. The primary goal of this role is to enhance student success through engaging and inclusive teaching practices. The designer will collaborate closely with the Director of the Center for Faculty Excellence (CFE), course coordinators, and instructors to collect and analyze data that informs course design and pedagogy. This position also involves providing support to course coordinators and individual instructors in the development and implementation of various active learning principles across different instructional modes, including in-person, blended, remote, and online formats. In addition to workshop facilitation, the Instructional Designer will assist the CFE Director in planning and implementing effective course design strategies, which may include the creation and integration of appropriate media elements. The role also encompasses managing professional development initiatives, data collection, and reporting on key performance indicators that align with institutional and CFE goals. Participation in relevant committees related to teaching, learning, and educational technology is also expected. This is a full-time position with a flexible/hybrid work schedule option, allowing for both remote and on-campus work in Bowling Green, Ohio. The position is initially for one year, with the possibility of extension based on funding availability.

Responsibilities

  • Design, plan, coordinate, and conduct pedagogical and technological professional development workshops for STEM faculty and teaching teams.
  • Collaborate with the CFE Director, program directors, and instructors to collect and analyze data to inform course design and pedagogy.
  • Provide support to program directors, individual instructors, and teaching teams in designing, developing, and implementing various course instruction modes.
  • Assist the CFE Director in planning and implementing course design strategies, including media integration.
  • Manage professional development, data collection, and reporting on key performance indicators aligned with institutional goals.
  • Participate in committees related to teaching, learning, and educational technology.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in a relevant field, conferred at the time of application.
  • 2 years of experience in face-to-face, blended, and/or online instruction and/or development in mathematics.
  • 2 years of experience in an online learning environment.
  • 2 years of experience with educational technologies, including multimedia and classroom technologies.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience working with mathematics instructors and/or teaching in higher education.
  • Proficiency with learning management systems, preferably Canvas, and online learning tools.
  • Experience designing, implementing, and/or evaluating instruction in various modalities.
  • Familiarity with web development programs and digital multimedia tools, including sound and video editing and web authoring programs.
  • Proficiency in cross-platform operating systems.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong applied learning skills and problem-solving abilities.
  • Good interpersonal skills and ability to work with a broad range of constituents.
  • Ability to work effectively as a team player.
