About the position

The Instructional Designer for the Graduate and International Programs at USC Gould School of Law is responsible for developing and supporting online courses, assisting faculty in course design, and applying best practices in instructional methodologies. This role requires expertise in educational technology and instructional design, with a focus on creating engaging and effective online learning experiences for students.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate expertise with instructional design methodologies and best practices for online learning.
  • Design and build new online courses to complement the online library.
  • Develop learning objectives and align content, activities, and assessments to those objectives.
  • Support faculty in creating instructional materials and strategies for effective online course delivery.
  • Deliver engaging instructional content using educational technology tools and learning management systems.
  • Design, create, and revise course documents and instructional-support materials.
  • Oversee the operation of the learning management system and vendor services, ensuring proper access and functionality.
  • Identify and resolve technical problems related to the learning management system.
  • Manage learning development projects involving eLearning authoring and media production.
  • Train users on learning management system platforms such as Blackboard, Canvas, Moodle, and Brightspace D2L.
  • Apply accessibility best practices in instructional materials according to relevant guidelines.
  • Collaborate with faculty and program staff to create a supportive learning environment.
  • Review online courses and instructional materials for compliance with best practices.
  • Assist with on-campus exam administration and departmental activities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in instructional design, educational technology, or related fields; Master's degree preferred.
  • 2 years of experience in instructional design in higher education or corporate environment; 3-5 years preferred.
  • Experience supporting educational technology and online teaching in a university or corporate environment.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, collaboration, and negotiation skills.
  • Knowledge of new teaching and media technologies in online education.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with project management of learning development projects.
  • Familiarity with accessibility standards and guidelines.
