About the position

The Instructional Designer at UMass Amherst is responsible for creating and implementing educational projects, courses, and workshops aimed at enhancing faculty and staff capabilities in designing and delivering high-quality online instruction. This role involves collaboration with faculty to develop course materials, ensuring quality assurance in course delivery, and providing training on instructional design best practices.

Responsibilities

  • Develop offline/online upskilling educational and research projects for faculty on trends in instructional design and learning technologies.
  • Conduct data research and analysis, interviews with experts, and prepare educational materials.
  • Work in cross-functional teams to communicate project information through various channels.
  • Consult and collaborate with university faculty to design courses, including defining course goals and learning objectives.
  • Provide quality assurance for developed courses to ensure high standards in learning design and accessibility.
  • Manage projects for the assessment and improvement of current courses and program development.
  • Develop and deliver training for faculty and staff on instructional design best practices.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree plus three (3) years of related professional experience.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of instructional design theories and methodologies.
  • Knowledge of trending approaches/technologies/standards used in higher education.
  • Experience developing course materials in a Learning Management System (LMS).
  • Strong project management skills and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to analyze and process large volumes of information and structure it effectively.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in design and development of technology-based instructional content across various disciplines.
  • Experience working with instructors in a higher education environment.
