About the position

The Instructional Designer 1 position at Montana Technological University focuses on enhancing online learning experiences through effective course design and faculty training. The role involves managing online learning technologies, providing user support for the Learning Management System, and ensuring compliance with accreditation and accessibility standards. The position aims to support faculty in creating engaging and effective online courses, contributing to the university's mission of providing a transformative student experience.

Responsibilities

  • Manage CAI managed online learning technology (Zoom, Panopto, Proctorio, etc.)
  • Assist with scheduling and facilitating faculty training in course design and online pedagogy
  • Offer user support for the Learning Management System and other instructional technologies
  • Help with internal course reviews and basic record keeping of training and reviews
  • Assist faculty with online course design, ensuring compliance with accessibility and RSI regulations

Requirements

  • BA or BS from an accredited university in instructional design or instructional technology, or a portfolio of completed work
  • Experience with one of the major mainstream LMS platforms (Canvas, Moodle, Blackboard, D2L, etc.)
  • Experience designing to meet accreditation and regulatory compliance requirements
  • Experience as an online student in higher education, preferably in a STEM discipline
  • Ability to work well with faculty and assist in distance course design planning
  • Ability to develop online faculty development programs
  • Must be able to meet deadlines and manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Availability for regular meetings with faculty and relevant individuals

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with Canvas LMS
  • Experience with distance learning in STEM
  • Experience teaching online in higher education
  • Experience with design theories and techniques such as backwards design, ADDIE, gamification, SAMR, etc.
  • Experience building engaging content using authentic learning and assessment
  • Experience with Quality Matters or similar quality assurance programs for distance learning
