About the position

As an Instructional Designer I, you will help faculty use digital tools and methods to improve teaching and support the academic mission within the College of Arts and Sciences. In this role, you will work closely with faculty to understand their pedagogical and curricular needs and apply digital solutions that meet the various needs of students at Texas A&M University. You will work with faculty who deliver instruction across different teaching modalities in the College to enhance and improve instruction through the application of the digital learning environment. This role offers great growth opportunities within the department and will require strong problem-solving skills and an interest in investigating potential issues within digital learning applications. You will assist in the design and implementation of training for instructors, track and assess training results, and use data produced by the digital learning environment to make decisions about tools, student success, and faculty development.

Responsibilities

  • Work collaboratively with instructional designers and multimedia specialists.
  • Contribute to College-wide training programs and support services based on best practices in digital learning.
  • Present workshops and provide one-on-one training on approved digital learning tools.
  • Host scheduled office hours weekly to provide faculty with live support on Canvas, 3rd party tools and other digital learning questions.
  • Complete special projects related to the digital learning environment upon direction of the Assistant Director and Assistant/Associate Dean for Digital Learning.
  • Create and review training documents and videos to support faculty in their use of digital learning initiatives.
  • Maintain the layout and content of the online repository that is available to faculty.
  • Work with team members on updating content and needs.
  • Review and respond to support tickets that come in via email or the ticketing system.
  • Analyze support data regularly and provide reports to the Director of Digital Learning.
  • Review digital learning tool data on usage by ArtSci faculty and recommend support.
  • Provide recommendations on future tool usage following trends and best practices.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Skilled in writing, proofreading, graphic design, and/or editing instructional or design materials.
  • Familiar with WCAG and ADA standards for Accessibility.
  • Demonstrated strategic thinking abilities.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in instructional design, curriculum and instruction, graphic design, faculty development, workshop facilitation, and engaging adult learners.
  • Experience with creating accessible course content including video accessibility.
  • Experience in meeting the needs of faculty and students in a higher education setting.
  • Experience with using contemporary technologies in integrated digital learning.
  • Ability to learn and demonstrate skill working within a digital learning environment to enhance instructional delivery across various teaching modalities.
  • Creativity, strategic thinking, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to apply pedagogical best practices for all learners.
  • Understanding of key factors for student success and knowledge of assessing student learning outcomes.
  • Proficiency in Canvas and associated third-party tools (Google, Zoom, Microsoft).
  • Ability to relate well and communicate with a variety of students.
  • Ability to track metrics and apply assessment outcomes to continuously improve.
  • Understanding of compliance measures for security, accessibility, and the protection of student data in the digital learning environment.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and support faculty's use of learning technologies in a fast-paced environment within a large College.
  • Strong interpersonal, collaborative, verbal and written communication, and customer service skills.
