About the position

The Instructional Designer I position at Texas A&M International University (TAMIU) is designed to support the development of classroom, hybrid, or online courses under general supervision. This role involves collaborating with instructors and subject matter experts (SMEs) to design and develop engaging online, blended, and web-enhanced courses. The Instructional Designer will consult with faculty and staff on instructional design principles, andragogy, and best practices, ensuring that educational materials are effective and accessible. In this role, the Instructional Designer will organize and prioritize tasks, lead course design and development projects, and administer online faculty development courses and resources. They will assist in planning and coordinating materials with course instructors, the instructional design team, and the multimedia team. Additionally, the designer will guide faculty and staff through the design process, identifying and recommending instructional strategies, technologies, pedagogies, and applications that enhance learning outcomes. The position also includes designing online modules, assisting with course reviews, and developing training for faculty and staff on instructional strategies and course design. The Instructional Designer I will act as the administrator of the Learning Management System, maintaining a database of online development courses. This position requires on-campus, face-to-face interactions and may involve evening and weekend work to meet the needs of the university community. The role is essential in fostering a high-quality learning environment for TAMIU's diverse student body, contributing to the university's mission of preparing students for leadership roles in a complex, multicultural society.

Responsibilities

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in applicable field.
  • No previous experience required.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bachelor's degree in Education, Psychology, Business, or Computer Information Systems.
  • Certification as a facilitator in Quality Matters in face-to-face or online formats.
  • Certification as a peer reviewer of Quality Matters courses.
  • Working knowledge of Blackboard as user, administrator, and trainer.
