About the position

The Instructional Designer I at California Baptist University is responsible for developing and maintaining online courses in Blackboard, while also training faculty on the effective use of instructional technology. This role ensures that all courses meet industry standards for quality and web accessibility, creating engaging learning experiences that align with educational goals.

Responsibilities

  • Create engaging learning activities and compelling course content.
  • Collaborate with course representatives/subject matter experts to identify training needs.
  • Set instructional end goals and create content that matches them.
  • Visualize instructional graphics, user interface, and finished product.
  • Analyze and apply trends and best practices in instructional design and learning technologies.
  • Apply best practices in web accessibility to develop ADA-compliant courses.
  • Create culturally relevant instructional environments utilizing UDL principles.
  • Recommend exercises and activities to enhance the learning process.
  • Provide training and support for instructional technology tools.
  • Create instructional materials/interactive media to support learning.
  • Devise modes of assessment to measure course effectiveness.
  • Maintain project documentation.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in instructional design, educational technology, information technology, or a similar relevant field.
  • In-depth knowledge of learning theories and instructional design models.
  • Lesson and curriculum planning skills.
  • Knowledge of web-based course delivery platforms.
  • In-depth knowledge of accessibility standards for online courses.
  • Knowledge of quality assurance frameworks for online course development.
  • Basic website design, video technology, and editing skills.
  • Visual design skills (Dreamweaver, Photoshop, Illustrator).
  • Ability to write effective copy, instructional text, audio, and video scripts.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with Blackboard or similar learning management systems.
  • Familiarity with UDL principles and culturally relevant instruction.
  • Knowledge of quality assurance frameworks for online course development.
