About the position

Suffolk Construction Company, Inc. is seeking an Instructional Designer II to join our Learning & Development team. This role is pivotal in overseeing and executing content creation and instructional design projects that enhance the learning experience across the organization. The Instructional Designer II will be responsible for developing comprehensive learning materials, managing external resources, coordinating with vendors, and planning for regular course revisions. This position requires building collaborative relationships with cross-functional teams to ensure that learning objectives align with business goals and operational standards. In this role, you will lead the analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation of learning and development content. You will collaborate with subject matter experts to determine learning objectives and outcomes, creating detailed storyboards and scripts that outline the layout, sequence, interactions, and content of multimedia and interactive elements in the learning materials. Measuring the effectiveness of instructional programs using appropriate evaluation methods is crucial, as is analyzing feedback and data to continuously improve learning solutions. You will support ongoing learning and development initiatives, including the Operational Excellence Academy, the Field Accelerated Superintendent Training, and QuickStart. Utilizing educational technology tools and platforms will be essential to enhance the learning experience, incorporating multimedia elements, interactive activities, simulations, and other engaging features into the operations curriculum. Staying current with emerging trends in instructional design, adult learning theories, and educational technology will be necessary to continuously enhance the quality and impact of learning content. Some travel to regional offices may be required to support the department's training efforts.

Responsibilities

  • Lead analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation of L&D content.
  • Collaborate with subject matter experts to determine learning objectives and outcomes.
  • Create thorough storyboards and scripts for multimedia and interactive learning materials.
  • Measure the effectiveness of instructional programs using appropriate evaluation methods.
  • Analyze feedback and data to continuously improve learning solutions.
  • Plan and update training content to ensure alignment with business goals and SOP changes.
  • Support ongoing learning and development initiatives, including various training programs.
  • Utilize educational technology tools to enhance the learning experience.
  • Incorporate multimedia elements and interactive activities into the curriculum.
  • Stay current with trends in instructional design and educational technology.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent work experience.
  • 3-5 years of experience in writing and creating engaging learning experiences.
  • Strong foundation in educational principles and practices.
  • Proven track record of success in instructional design.
  • Advanced design and adult learning principles knowledge, including ADDIE and Design Thinking.
  • Proficiency in software and authoring tools, including Microsoft Office 365 and Articulate Storyline.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with Social Learning platforms.
  • Familiarity with Kirkpatrick Model and Bloom's Taxonomy.
