About the position

The Instructional Designer II at Texas A&M University will play a crucial role in supporting faculty in the application of digital learning technologies, strategies, and best practices that align with the academic mission of the College of Arts and Sciences. This position is designed for individuals who are passionate about enhancing educational experiences through innovative instructional design. The selected candidate will work closely with faculty to assess their pedagogical and curricular needs, ensuring that the digital learning technologies implemented are tailored to meet the diverse needs of students across the university. In this role, the Instructional Designer will engage with faculty who utilize various teaching modalities, aiming to improve instructional delivery through the effective use of digital learning environments. The responsibilities include collaborating on the design and implementation of training opportunities for course instructors, tracking and assessing the outcomes of these training sessions, and continuously improving the delivery of educational content. The Instructional Designer will also analyze data generated from the digital learning environment to inform decisions regarding third-party tools, student success metrics, and faculty development initiatives. This position requires a commitment to in-person work at the College Station campus, with potential travel to various locations for meetings and collaborations. The Instructional Designer II will be expected to contribute to a culture of respect and excellence, embodying the core values of Texas A&M University while fostering an inclusive learning environment.

Responsibilities

  • Works collaboratively with a team of instructional designers and multimedia specialists supporting digital learning in the College of Arts and Sciences.
  • Leads others through the design process and makes key recommendations for design.
  • Plans, develops and delivers guidance in instructional strategies and course design.
  • Contributes to College-wide training programs and support services that are informed by best practices in digital learning.
  • Leads and oversees course design and development projects.
  • Hosts scheduled office hours weekly to provide faculty with live support on Canvas, 3rd party tools, and other digital learning questions.
  • Completes special projects related to the digital learning environment upon direction of the Director of Digital Learning.
  • Supports the Geosciences Online Program by assisting with course layout, tool best practices, accessibility, and recording.
  • Creates and reviews training documents and videos to support faculty in their use of Canvas, 3rd party tools, and other digital learning initiatives.
  • Maintains the layout and content of the repository that is available to faculty in an online environment.
  • Reviews digital learning tool data on usage by ArtSci faculty and provides recommendations based on data.
  • Acts as a liaison between the College and the University teams on digital learning issues and information.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 2 years of related experience in instructional design or educational technology or related fields.
  • Skilled in writing, proofreading, graphic design, and/or editing instructional or design materials.
  • Ability to work in a collaborative team environment.
  • Evidence of strong interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Demonstrated strategic thinking abilities.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in instructional design, curriculum and instruction, graphic design, faculty development, workshop facilitation, and engaging adult learners.
  • Experience in meeting the needs of faculty and students in a higher education setting.
  • Experience with using contemporary technologies in an integrated digital learning environment.
  • Ability to learn and demonstrate skill working within a digital learning environment to enhance instructional delivery across various teaching modalities.

  • Understanding of compliance measures for security, accessibility, and the protection of student data in the digital learning environment.
