About the position

The Instructional Designer Intern at Utah Transit Authority (UTA) plays a crucial role in supporting the curriculum development and instructional design for the Light Rail Business Unit. This internship involves assisting in the development, design, and research of training programs tailored for the Light Rail Business Unit. The intern will work closely with the Light Rail/Maintenance of Way Training Administrator, Designers, and Specialists to implement a standardized curriculum across the unit, ensuring effective instructional development and management. The intern will also engage in training analytics and compliance processes, contributing to the overall training strategy of the organization. In this role, the intern will create training content and assess delivery methods for application in various settings, including E-learning environments. The intern will be expected to implement best practice instructional design methods to promote consistent training standards and enhance learning outcomes for students. Additionally, the intern will assist in administering the Learning Management System (LMS), which is vital for tracking and managing training activities. The internship may involve directly preparing, organizing, and conducting training courses and certifications as needed. The intern will serve as a liaison between the Training Department and Subject Matter Experts, facilitating effective communication and collaboration in training activities. Participation in committee meetings to ensure group effectiveness and awareness is also a key responsibility of this position. This part-time internship offers flexible hours, not exceeding 29 hours per week, making it an excellent opportunity for junior-level students seeking practical experience in instructional design and training development.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the development, design, and research of training programs for the Light Rail Business Unit.
  • Support the implementation of standardized curriculum and instructional development across the unit.

Requirements

  • Junior level student currently enrolled in an accredited college or university, seeking an undergraduate degree in Adult Education, Instructional Design, or related field.
  • Minimum GPA of 3.0.
  • Preferred coursework in Course Content Creation, including Course Outline, Instructor/Student handbooks, Assessments, and E-learning.
  • Strong interpersonal and project management skills, with effective oral and written communication abilities.
  • Proficient in computer use and knowledge of Learning Management Systems, preferably Learnerweb and Adobe E-Learning Suite including Adobe Captivate and Scorm Packager.
  • Intermediate skills in Microsoft Office software programs (Word, Excel, Visio, PowerPoint, etc.).
  • Valid Utah driver's license with a safe driving record.
