About the position

The Instructional Designer at Lucile Packard Children's Hospital is responsible for assessing training needs and developing comprehensive training programs for Epic systems. This role involves creating instructional materials, conducting various training sessions, and evaluating the effectiveness of training initiatives. The Instructional Designer collaborates with management and stakeholders to ensure that training aligns with organizational goals and enhances user proficiency in Epic applications.

Responsibilities

  • Determine Epic training needs and goals in collaboration with management and operations.
  • Design and develop training programs using various educational media.
  • Write and edit instructional materials such as training guides and how-to documents.
  • Schedule and conduct classroom, WebEx, blended, and one-on-one training sessions.
  • Assess training needs by rounding throughout departments and providing user support.
  • Manage multiple training projects, developing timelines and identifying milestones.
  • Participate in workflow and system optimization initiatives to enhance user expertise.
  • Staff the Clinical Service Desk phone line to provide first call resolution for Epic questions.
  • Develop scenario-based education and micro-learning materials to engage learners.
  • Maintain and update the library of e-Learning materials and document libraries on SharePoint.
  • Conduct user evaluations to assess training effectiveness and suggest improvements.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field from an accredited institution.
  • Two years of progressively responsible experience in instructional design or related field.
  • Ability to communicate complex concepts in simple terms to diverse audiences.
  • Strong project management skills to lead teams and meet deadlines.
  • Knowledge of Epic applications and workflows in healthcare settings.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with SharePoint for document management.
  • Familiarity with copyright law and usage rights for educational materials.
  • Desire to cross-train in other functional areas of the Epic EHR system.
