About the position

The Instructional Designer for Online Programs at the University of Tennessee at Martin is responsible for providing curriculum development expertise and support across various projects. This role involves conducting needs analyses, developing courses, and evaluating educational materials while ensuring high-quality deliverables. The designer will collaborate with faculty and subject matter experts to enhance teaching and learning innovations, demonstrating a commitment to effective instructional design and technology integration.

Responsibilities

  • Designs, develops, writes, edits, and assesses instructor-led, web-based, eLearning courses, and course materials in collaboration with subject matter experts.
  • Performs needs assessments to determine project specifications.
  • Tests, verifies, and validates technological procedures or processes related to course delivery.
  • Communicates with faculty regularly during the course development process.
  • Provides ongoing support and technical assistance for delivered courses and technologies.
  • Provides advice on pedagogical and instructional design theories and practical guidance on teaching and learning innovations.
  • Creates supporting material/media.
  • Provides consultation services and training to faculty, staff, and students.
  • Uses innovative approaches to solve problems.
  • Supports all phases of the curriculum lifecycle: analysis, development, delivery, evaluation, and maintenance.
  • Collaborates with peers and subject matter experts on developing program materials.
  • Assists in creating, maintaining, and improving existing course material, including visual aids and graphics.
  • Conducts quality assurance reviews on courses and facilitates implementation of revisions.

Requirements

  • Master's degree and three years of experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Proven working experience in instructional design and instructional technology.
  • Excellent knowledge of learning theories and instructional design models.
  • Lesson and curriculum planning skills.
  • Demonstrated project management skills.
  • Knowledge of instructional design models, processes, and instructional development methods.
  • Knowledge of instructional design software technologies.
  • Knowledge of accessibility standards and universal design principles.
  • Analytical skills.
  • Writing and editing skills.
  • Ability to develop courses and training.
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally, in writing, and through visuals.
  • Ability to effectively interact and communicate with a diverse group of individuals.
  • Ability to work both independently and in a team environment.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in higher education
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Canvas LMS, Harmonize, Portfolium, Akindi, Turnitin, Microsoft Office applications, and Microsoft Teams
