About the position

The University of Maine at Presque Isle is seeking a part-time, fixed-length Instructional Designer to enhance teaching excellence and provide accessible learning pathways for faculty and students. This role focuses on Learning Management System (LMS) administration and asset production, collaborating with faculty to implement best design practices and ensure accessibility and engagement of course materials. The position is flexible, allowing for in-person, remote, or hybrid work, and requires strong project management and communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Develop a comprehensive understanding of UMPI's design priorities and strategic initiatives related to Brightspace LMS and other educational technologies.
  • Provide one-on-one and group support to faculty in course creation, revision, and assessment, utilizing instructional design principles and best practices in CBE, online, and other modalities.
  • Offer synchronous and asynchronous technical support for faculty in using the LMS and instructional technologies.
  • Assist in developing multimedia content, including videos and job aids, to enhance faculty and student engagement.
  • Collaborate with the Center for Teaching & Learning to maintain and update the student-facing eLearning Hub, the faculty-facing CTL Wordpress site, and other digital resources.
  • Manage term processing requirements, as needed, as identified by the Sr. Instructional Design staff.
  • Advocate for Universal Design for Learning (UDL) principles and accessibility in course design and complete accessibility remediation on CTL assets.
  • Stay current with emerging technologies and pedagogical strategies to improve instructional support continuously.
  • Sit on the System-wide Brightspace Designers group and regularly meet with Center for Teaching & Learning staff.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Education, Instructional Technology, Multimedia Design, or a related field.
  • Two years of experience working with various software applications, including MS Office and Google Suite.
  • Experience designing for a Learning Management System (LMS).
  • Familiarity with digital pedagogy and Universal Design for Learning (UDL) principles.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively and independently.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's degree in Instructional Design, Educational Technology, or a related field.
  • Previous teaching experience in higher education.
  • Knowledge of andragogy and adult learning principles.
  • Experience with Brightspace, Zoom, Kaltura, and other educational platforms.
