About the position

The Instructional Designer (Pool) position at the San Mateo County Community College District is a part-time, temporary role focused on providing pedagogical and educational technology support for various course formats, including face-to-face, hybrid, and online courses. The ideal candidate will be committed to educational equity and will work collaboratively with faculty and staff to enhance teaching and learning experiences for a diverse student population.

Responsibilities

  • Provide hands-on consulting with faculty on course design, development, learning objectives, and teaching strategies.
  • Present professional development training and learning opportunities for faculty and staff.
  • Promote mastery of technology skills and pedagogy for successful online course delivery.
  • Assess online courses to ensure effective contact between instructors and students.
  • Maintain knowledge of copyright and accessibility compliance regulations for instructional materials.
  • Implement innovative uses of technology and pedagogy to address diverse learning styles and accessibility guidelines.
  • Create documentation and an inventory of resources for faculty support.
  • Coordinate with counterparts at the District colleges and District Office.

Requirements

  • Master's degree or above in instructional design/technology or educational technology, or equivalent experience.
  • Three years of relevant experience in instructional design and technology, including familiarity with learning management systems.
  • Demonstrated cultural competence and understanding of diverse backgrounds of community college students.

Nice-to-haves

  • Recent experience working with racially minoritized and disproportionately impacted students.
  • Willingness to examine and remediate instructional practices to support diverse students.
  • Experience with culturally responsive teaching in technology.
