About the position

The Instructional Designer at Baker College plays a crucial role in developing innovative and engaging educational programs and courses. This position involves collaborating with subject matter experts and the design team to enhance existing curricula and integrate technology to improve the learning experience across various formats. The designer will utilize frameworks like Understanding by Design (UbD) and Universal Design for Learning (UDL) to create impactful learning solutions, ensuring compliance with ADA accessibility standards and maintaining course materials in the Learning Management System (LMS).

Responsibilities

  • Partner with subject matter experts and the design team to create innovative programs and courses.
  • Refine existing curriculum and integrate technology to enhance learning experiences.
  • Utilize frameworks such as Understanding by Design (UbD) and Universal Design for Learning (UDL) in course design.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of program and course designs for continuous improvement.
  • Develop engaging instructional content for asynchronous online, synchronous online, and face-to-face learning environments.
  • Incorporate various media such as audio, video, podcasts, web content, and mobile devices into instructional materials.
  • Conduct research on innovative educational technologies and recommend instructional strategies.
  • Ensure all course materials are compliant with ADA accessibility standards and maintained in Canvas, the LMS.
  • Participate in meetings and committees, supporting Instructional Design Assistants.
  • Establish external relationships to support Baker College's vision and mission.

Requirements

  • Experience in instructional design or a related field.
  • Proficiency in using Learning Management Systems, particularly Canvas.
  • Strong understanding of instructional design frameworks such as UbD and UDL.
  • Ability to integrate technology into educational programs effectively.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
