About the position

The Middlesex Corporation is seeking a creative and detail-oriented Instructional Designer to join our Learning & Development team. This role is pivotal in designing and developing high-quality eLearning modules that enhance technical training delivery and create comprehensive training programs for both technical and non-technical skills. The ideal candidate will regularly collaborate with subject matter experts (SMEs) from all business units of the organization and will be instrumental in a newly formed strategic initiative aimed at improving quality metrics through targeted training interventions. In this position, the Instructional Designer will be responsible for designing and developing engaging eLearning modules using Articulate and other eLearning authoring tools. The role involves creating training content that incorporates multimedia elements to enhance learning experiences, developing quizzes and interactive elements to ensure understanding and retention, and working closely with internal SMEs to identify training needs and create relevant content. Additionally, the Instructional Designer will conduct train-the-trainer sessions to enhance SMEs' ability to develop and deliver technical training effectively. The successful candidate will also develop both technical and non-technical (soft skills) workshops and training programs, leveraging existing source content and creating new materials to address identified training needs. It is essential that all training materials adhere to adult learning principles and instructional design best practices. Collaboration with Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) and Quality professionals will be crucial to address and mitigate historical and current safety and quality issues through targeted training solutions. The Instructional Designer will also be responsible for uploading and managing eLearning modules on the company's Learning Management System (LMS).

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop engaging eLearning modules using Articulate and other eLearning authoring tools.
  • Create training content, incorporating multimedia elements to enhance learning experiences.
  • Develop quizzes and interactive elements to ensure understanding and retention.
  • Work closely with internal SMEs to identify training needs and create relevant content.
  • Conduct train-the-trainer sessions to enhance SMEs' ability to develop and deliver technical training effectively.
  • Develop both technical and non-technical (soft skills) workshops and training programs.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Instructional Design, Education, Training and Development, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in instructional design and eLearning development.
  • Experience working with Articulate and other eLearning authoring tools.
  • Proven experience in developing technical and non-technical training programs.
  • Strong knowledge of adult learning principles and instructional design methodologies.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively with technical subject matter experts and other stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in creating multimedia content, including video editing and graphic design.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience in the heavy civil construction or engineering industry preferred.
  • Familiarity with Learning Management Systems (LMS) and related learning technologies preferred.
  • Certification in instructional design or related areas preferred.
