About the position

The Medical College of Wisconsin (MCW) is seeking an experienced Instructional Designer Sr. to join the Kern National Network (KNN) team. This role is pivotal in developing educational modules, courses, resources, and learning experiences that align with the KNN Framework for Flourishing. Under the guidance of the Senior Manager of Learning and Engagement, the Instructional Designer will collaborate with KNN Program Office colleagues and external partners to ensure the successful design and delivery of instructional units. The position requires a deep understanding of instructional design principles and the ability to apply best practices in education, curriculum development, and learning cognition. As an Instructional Designer Sr., you will be responsible for consulting and training the KNN Learning and Engagement team, as well as external partners, in the design of course curricula and pedagogies across various instructional modalities. This includes defining intended learning outcomes, developing course content, and evaluating teaching methods and assessment strategies. You will also initiate consultations with subject matter experts to create engaging learning activities that enhance learner retention and application. The role involves collaborating with educators and subject matter experts to develop learning objectives and design content for courses and learning modules. You will ensure that the KNN Framework for Flourishing is integrated into all learning experiences and instructional activities. Additionally, you will leverage emerging technologies such as AR/VR/XR and AI to produce learning resources in various formats, including print, graphics, audio, video, and animation. Effective project management skills are essential, as you will oversee multiple course development projects from inception to completion, ensuring adherence to established instructional design processes and timelines. You will also contribute to the KNN Learning and Engagement team’s national strategy by identifying opportunities for knowledge sharing and proposing solutions for learning experiences. This includes managing events and drafting necessary documentation. Staying current with emerging instructional methods and technologies is crucial for this role, as is the ability to build and maintain professional relationships with faculty and staff across various audiences.

Responsibilities

  • Consult, train, and serve as a resource to KNN Learning and Engagement team and external partners in course and program design.
  • Initiate and provide consultation and support for creating engaging learning activities.
  • Collaborate with internal and external educators to develop learning objectives and design content for courses and modules.
  • Ensure integration of the KNN Framework for Flourishing into learning experiences.
  • Coordinate the incorporation of various instructional methods and leverage technology for instructional materials.
  • Contribute expertise in using emerging technologies in the design and production of learning resources.
  • Effectively manage multiple course and learning material development projects from inception to completion.
  • Serve as a leader in maintaining up-to-date knowledge of emerging instructional methods.
  • Identify opportunities and gaps for learning experiences and propose solution strategies.

Requirements

  • Master's Degree in Education or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum of 6 years of experience in instructional design or related field.
  • Demonstrated ability to apply a systematic education design process for competency-based educational units.
  • Proven ability to select and use optimal instructional delivery methods and strategies.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills and ability to adapt language for varied audiences.
  • Strong critical thinking, problem-solving, and prioritization skills.
