About the position

The Instructional Designer for STEM at the University of Texas at San Antonio is responsible for providing instructional and program design expertise to develop and support academic courses in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM). This role involves collaborating with faculty and subject matter experts to create online and hybrid courses, ensuring they meet accessibility and quality standards, and implementing evaluation procedures to assess the effectiveness of teaching technologies. The position requires a strong focus on innovative learning strategies and technology integration to enhance student-centered outcomes.

Responsibilities

  • Provides instructional and program design expertise for the development and support of academic courses and educational programs.
  • Collaboratively plans, designs, and develops online and/or hybrid courses, modules, and learning materials.
  • Coordinates instructional design projects from inception to completion, documenting processes and measuring results.
  • Ensures projects meet accessibility and university design standards for quality and innovation.
  • Designs, develops, and implements evaluation procedures to assess the effectiveness of technologies in teaching and learning processes.
  • Manages the coordination and delegation of course design efforts and provides guidance for project completion.
  • Collaborates with faculty and SMEs to establish course goals and develop learning outcomes.
  • Performs needs assessments and audience analysis for course development.
  • Provides best practices and guidelines to align course objectives, assessments, and activities.
  • Recommends effective uses of technologies to enhance instruction and create new learning environments.
  • Provides technology support for online teaching and learning tools.
  • Develops training materials to assist faculty with remote and online teaching.
  • Conducts course quality reviews and provides recommendations for improvement.
  • Stays current with trends and emerging technologies in teaching and learning.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution.
  • One year of experience in online course design and development.
  • Experience teaching, designing, or facilitating STEM courses.
  • Willingness to explore technology and innovative learning strategies.
  • Experience using a learning management system such as Canvas.
  • Knowledge of HTML and CSS.
  • Experience with web conferencing tools like Zoom, WebEx, and Teams.
  • Experience using Adobe Creative Suite and e-learning authoring programs like Articulate Storyline.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Ability to work well in a team environment or independently.
  • Strong presentation skills and excellent verbal and written communication skills.
