The Instructional Designer positions at Southern Company are integral to the Technical Training Support group, focusing on the development and implementation of training curriculum and content for the Power Delivery Substation and Engineering sectors. The Instructional Designer, Substation will be based at the Klondike Training Center in Stonecrest, GA, while the Instructional Designer, Engineering can work from either The Energy Center in Birmingham, AL, or the Klondike Training Center. The role requires a hybrid work schedule, with a minimum of two days in the office each week, although flexibility is offered depending on project needs. Travel for this position is expected to be less than 25%. In this role, the instructional designer will leverage their expertise in instructional design and multimedia to analyze, design, develop, implement, evaluate, and maintain various training materials, including eLearning modules, facilitator guides, and job aids. The designer will collaborate closely with internal customers and subject matter experts to gather course content and ensure that the training materials align with organizational learning objectives. The position demands a strong understanding of instructional design theories and practices, as well as the ability to apply these in creating effective learning experiences that drive results. The instructional designer will also be responsible for managing projects, adhering to timelines, and ensuring that all learning projects are delivered on time and within budget. This includes engaging in curriculum planning, executing project plans, and maintaining course documentation in various systems. The role requires a proactive approach to research and innovation in learning design, advocating for continuous improvement in educational practices.
